IIT Madras-Indian Institute of Technology is an institute of higher education in engineering in India. IIT Madras is one among the most prominent institutes of national importance in higher technological education, basic and applied research. It has established itself as a premier centre for teaching, research and industrial consultancy in the country. The Institute was established in the year 1959 by Prof. Humayun Kabir, Union Minister for Scientific Research and Cultural Affairs. The Institute has fifteen academic departments and a few advanced research centres in various disciplines of engineering and pure sciences, with nearly 100 laboratories organised in a unique pattern of functioning. The IITs are rated among the finest educational institutions in the world as ranked by their peers.

Campus :-
IT Madras is a residential institute that occupies a 2.5 km² (620 acres) campus that was formerly part of the adjoining Guindy National Park. The institute has nearly 360 faculty, 6,000 students and 1,250 administrative and supporting staff.
The campus is extremely clean, green and mostly untouched by the pollution of the rest of the city. The institute has two swimming pools; football, hockey and cricket grounds; and tennis, basketball, squash and volleyball courts. The college is situated in the very good environment, that the students feel comfortable and enjoys their study.
