Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute is a university with its main campus in the city of Chennai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

It was founded by A.C. Shanmugam under the Kannamal Educational Trust. Dr. M.G.R. Engineering College and Thai Moogambigai Dental College were established in 1987 and 1991 respectively. These two colleges were made into constituent colleges of Dr.M.G.R Educational and Research Institute University, by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and theUniversity Grants Commission.

The Placement and Training Cell of Dr. M.G.R. University was set up with the single goal of bringing together the student fraternity with leading corporates. In the span of twenty five years the placement cell has achieved exponential growth and success. Students who have left the portals of our university have rapidly climbed the corporate echelons in India. The Placement and Training Cell at Dr. M.G.R. University believes in building a strong brand identity for the students to meet the industry expectations.

The Cell focuses on training programmes for employable candidates, where students are exposed to Aptitude Tests, Psychometric Tooling Tests before moving onto Personality Development, Interpersonal Skills, Group Presentation and Resume Writing skills. The university has an excellent track record in placement with with well-known companies like TCS, IBM, Infosys, Accenture, HCL, Caritor, Polaris, Wipro, L&T Infotech, Satyam, TNPL, CPCL, BPCL, ONGC, NCTPC, Godrej, Butter y and Hyundai conducting regular campus interviews for the students; about 75% of the students are placed through the campus interviews.

In keeping with the goals enunciated by the Chancellor, the students must become job creators and not job seekers. Several students have turned entrepreneurs and established their own businesses. Many seminars, workshops and special lectures are periodically conducted by bringing industry experts, professional associations and societies to familiarise the students with the latest industry demands.
